We’ve been focused a lot on company secretaries recently, producing our new white paper ‘Under pressure: the company secretary and the growing need for effective governance’ that looked at the role of the company secretary, and how it is becoming harder than ever before..
We also conducted research with UK employees that revealed the company secretary to be one of the least recognised board members amongst UK firms, with just 15% of UK employees able to identify the company secretary in their organisation. So we are looking forward to talking all things company secretary at the upcoming ICSA Ireland Conference 2017.
It’s a prestigious conference, and the largest annual event for company secretaries and governance professionals in Ireland. It focuses on the need for such individuals to develop their own skills and knowledge to help guide boards through potentially turbulent times. The ICSA Ireland Conference looks to provide delegates with the tools to approach the coming year with confidence and an opportunity to reflect upon the value of governance.
BoardPacks and EntitySquared
That’s where we feel the eShare technology suite has so much to offer the company secretary. Our online board portal, BoardPacks, makes it easier for board members to demonstrate accountability, compliance and transparency, and company secretaries can offer boards access to documentation around previous decisions, contributing to more informed decision-making, and resulting in decisions that are more balanced, measured and based on information.
Entity management is another area we can help the company secretary’s role become that bit easier. Many large corporations are not even aware of all the entities they own, never mind who their directors are and whether they do a good job, so it is hardly surprising when sometimes they fall foul of local compliance regulations.
So our EntitySquared platform allows a company secretary to personally remain on top of each entity, from information on its directors and partners, to any upcoming regulatory requirements.
There is an impressive line-up of speakers at ICSA Ireland Conference, with Ruairi Cosgrove FCIS, President, ICSA Ireland starting proceedings off on 23 May at the Ballsbridge Hotel in Dublin. An eShare team of two will be in attendance and is looking forward to understanding some of the concerns faced by company secretaries in Ireland and also by demonstrating how our technology can help address some of these issues.
If you’d like to learn more about the changing role of the company secretary, then please read our new whitepaper here. Or if you are attending ICSA Ireland Conference then we would love to see you in person – come and ask for Dominic or Cara at the eShare stand.
