Build a better foundation for your housing association
We will be returning to the UK’s leading housing association conference and exhibition this September.
Take a look at some of the highlights from last year’s event.
In the lead up to the general election, the 5 biggest political parties all committed to end the current housing crisis within a generation. Now post election with our new government in place, the NHF Annual Conference offers a great opportunity to hear what changes are happening in the sector. Speakers at the conference will be discussing the issues facing the housing market and drawing attention to areas where housing associations need to develop in order to solve the present problems.
A sector under pressure
In 2014, less than half the estimated 250,000 additional houses needed each year were built. In fact, the last 5 years have seen the fewest houses built per annum since the end of the Second World War. The consequence is a growing demand on housing associations, which is why it’s so vital that a good governance framework is used to make sure difficult decisions are taken appropriately.
In light of the current pressures on social housing, improving governance is one of the top priorities for housing associations, particularly in the area of risk-management. How housing associations invest their money, what development decisions they take and how they manage their assets are all weighty decisions that contain substantive elements of risk. It’s therefore important that the board are fully aware of the risks they are taking, and that the appropriate controls are put in place.
Software that can support these broader governance activities alongside regular meetings are becoming crucial to a well functioning boardroom. As with other industries, the increased efficiency from using technology is encouraging meeting participants to use tablets rather than printing out paper. BoardPacks software, chosen by the National Housing Federation, allows board members to access meeting documentation and risk data from their tablets, on and offline, from any platform.
If you’re attending the event, you won’t be able to miss us as we’re at stand #71, right by the entrance. We’re the ones with the Lego giveaways and tablet prize draw.
In the meantime, why not find out how we’re helping housing associations like Tai Ceredigion manage their governance.
See you soon.
